This work in progress was born as a project for the course

Replicas and Resurrection offered by Livia Piazza.

Imagined by Santiago Mariño, kemelo sehlapelo, Isidora Gazmuri and with the support of Livia Piazza; the central idea of the project is to reflect about the concept of resurrection in relation with cinema. Specifically, with the German movie "Fitzcarraldo" (1982, Werner Herzog) and all the crude implications that filming this movie had in Peruvian´s Amazonia, as well as its good reception in the Europian cinema circuit. The work uses COPY as a resource for creation and also as a mean for resurecting something hidden in between the movie of "Fitzcarraldo".

I'm Felix and this is my hunt for the snitch. The work is personal. I'm going to think about searching and hiding and how I struggle with my expectation of something. Right now I'm still speaking to you in German, and that's not going to change. Another light will come on, there will be seven jackets and three pairs of boots, it will have been added simultaneously, fog will flow backwards, a nautical chart will be watered, boxes will talk, a baker will raise a thunderstorm and the question will arise as to why I only recently realized that the first cramp is simply called “The Landing”. If you lose track, please don't despair. You are not alone. Many thanks to ASJA for letting me borrow this piece of text from you.

Dates of Expiry / Verfallsdaten

cancelled

IMG_20240329_194445 - Carlos Franke.jpg

"Dates of Expiry" is a sad and humorous contemplation of mortality in the form of a minimalist stage performance. Books of dead authors appear like a trick of the light, medical documents hugely magnified, personal memories manifest in singular objects. Sometimes far away, sometimes almost too close. Carlos Franke, entangled in this interplay of distance and intimacy, magnification and disappearance, makes a very personal attempt of finding an order in everything. "Dates of Expiry" is a piece about death. But also about optimism and hope. Or simply about life.

Flow through you

cancelled

The duet is a strong choreographic work where the dancers seem to go through a kind of ritualistic trance. The circular themes that are discovered through their movement and setting of stage encourage a flow of energy which allows a state of transmutation. In a corporate and concrete world there is little room for attention to the power of rituals and what they are capable of doing for one’s emotional, psychological and passionate state. In most cultures this practice is missing so we invite the audience to experience this state of catharsis and question what a ritual might be like for them. Through this duet there is an appreciation and awareness gained to the self and how to let go of old energy that no longer serves us and embrace the new, surfing the ebb and flow of life within.

On my walks through the city, in my bed, in the shower, I zoom out, living in an alternative universe so unrealistic it's almost funny. I walk, making facial expressions, imagining myself as another version of myself. I'm playing this little show just for myself. But still, there is always somebody else watching too. Sitting in a comfy armchair, seeing right through me. Sitting in the distance, wondering. Sitting invisible in the back of my head. This performance deals with the ways in which we encounter ourselves in our thoughts, the scenarios and people that accompany us there, and the question of why I always feel like a man is watching me.

»Ich saz ûf eime steine« - Das Denken in Form bringen

000973170021 - Michael Eberle.jpg

The sun breaks through the wall of clouds and the bushes between the road and the sidewalk overflow. Maple trees form avenues and in the middle - at the foot of the dwelling - I find Walther von der Vogelweide's stone again: “ich saz dar ûf und dahte bein mit beine” (I saz dar ûf and leg with leg) and meditate with you on Walther's question and make it ours; “wie man zer welte solte leben” (how to live in this world).  Just as physical fitness and muscle groups are trained in the gym, I would also like to understand thinking as a category that needs to be brought into shape. So I would like to invite you to a session of joint mental exercise at the aforementioned stone in front of Liebigstrasse 47 on the question “How should one live (in this world)?”.

What is a garden? Where does it end and where does it begin and what are the entanglements of humans and other organisms with it? Together with my life tree I would like to explore the concept of the social garden. A garden which is not limited by space and ground. It moves around the world and is a testimony of the social relations we cultivate and tend to. It is a queer attempt to local humans within a system that is so much bigger than people. So, together we will root our feet in the ground and ground the roots of a plant in earth at the Gutenberg Garden.

NERVE ENDINGS

EYES - Tolja Haß.png

NERVE ENDINGS engages with queer discourses about neurodiversity, (invisible) disability and the human brain. NERVE ENDINGS wants to take the audience onto a journey through the human brain and show different experiences of neurodivergent people. Neurodivergence involves differences in brain structure, connectivity, and neurotransmitter function. Neurodivergence means to not fit into the normative capitalist way of thinking, working, and living. Ableism, even though it is now acknowledged as a category of discrimination, was only recently included in common discourses and institutions. Especially the educational system is still very far behind when it comes to accessibility. Not only are the spaces physically still very exclusive, but the way in which humans are supposed to learn and process information shows the system's ableist attitude towards bodies and brains that do not function in the way the system intended. Disabled and neurodivergent people often do not have the same access to opportunities and institutional support as able-bodied people. Unfortunately, our (educational) institutions are still deeply interwoven with capitalist, colonial and neurotypical structures. NERVE ENDINGS tells stories about people and experiences that don’t fit into these normative systems.

NERVE ENDINGS is a soft dive into the synapses and connections of the human brain and wants to create a mesmerizing, galactic cosmos which connects with the audience through the collective experiencing of various senses.

THE NEW WHITE AESTHETIC

IMG_20240124_221601_290 - Kemelo Sehlapelo.jpg

THE NEW WHITE AESTHETIC is a dance performance that re-enacts imagery of canonical marble statues. Using the movement practice of ballet - understood as an ethnic dance of the Indo-European diaspora - in developing a practice of dilapidation or "butchered ballet", the bodies traverse the space. Transitioning from image to image, they dance an erased polychromatic history, embodying the crumbling of the empire and of the new white aesthetic.

Traces of a body

In 'Traces of a Body' Rose Marie Lindstrøm explores the question of how the transformations and events of life that are inscribed in the body can be visualised and what traces are left behind by bodies in a ghostly presence. The choreography focuses on the hair and circular movements, which become visible as paintings on silk and touch on the cycle of life from rebirth to death. With endlessly circling head movements without revealing the face, the performer reaches a hypnotic trance state that invites the inner ghosts to dance with the body and revitalise it as a living archive. In doing so, she confronts the apparent contradiction between the feeling that the body vessel is merely a shell for memories and emotions that can only be inadequately shared, and the actual potency of bodies and voices.

Nothing much to be said about it right now, it could be that this dance is a text being read in a peculiar way, a weird conversation, a self hypnosis practice through speech and breath, everything might as well turn upside down into something completely else, but I invite you to sit together, like a fool, like a mountain, around us darkness and some painted flowers.

REALITY TM 2024:
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

After two successful editions of REALITY TM in 2021 and 2022, the cult format is back, fittingly to mark the 50th anniversary of the Institute of Applied Theater Studies. The “aesthetic cadre forge of the nation” (DIE ZEIT) will continue its revolutionization of the German elite theater scene into a new era of commercial sensory overload. No eye will remain dry! Be there LIVE when the young, hip students from Giessen break all the rules in the jungle camp. You can watch LIVE (!!!) on site and follow the action on your cell phone at the same time. They will laugh, cry, dance, sing, sleep, eat, drink, shit, fuck and maybe just LIVE. No God, no state and no university administration, however reactionary, will be able to cancel this event.
After this show, the former head of the institute Heiner Göbbels will rename himself out of shame!

HOMO MISERATUS

»Das Wimmern, immer das Wimmern irgendwo in meinem Herzen.« (Friederike Mayröcker)

(The whimpering, always the whimpering somewhere in my heart.)

A film about declarations of lament in physiognomies, about the hearing of lamentations, about lamentations to the heart that “swint” (, about collective elegies - the lament of all! - and about the invocation of “crushing calm” (Norwegian proverb), the formulation of longings and desires that open up the "Möglichkeitsraum"(Robert Musil) (“space of possibility”)  in a poetics of prayer:
